Teeth Extractions in Toronto
There are several reasons why a person might require a tooth extraction. This includes trauma, overcrowding, and advanced tooth decay, among several other possible reasons. For teenagers and young adults, impaction from wisdom teeth is another common reason for tooth extraction. Regardless of the reason for your tooth extraction, our staff is dedicated to performing the extraction as quickly and comfortably as possible.
The Tooth Extraction Process
The process of a simple extraction will begin with your dentist applying a local anesthetic to numb the area around the extraction site. Then, they will make an incision in the gum to expose the tooth. The tooth may be broken into pieces for easier removal and will then be removed with forceps. For teeth that have not erupted (such as wisdom teeth), a surgical extraction is often necessary.
Post-Extraction Recovery
Immediately following the extraction, your dentist will instruct you to keep gauze over the extraction site to stop the bleeding and promote the formation of a blood clot. Once the anesthetic wears off, you may feel pain in the extraction area, in which case you can take over-the-counter pain medication. To reduce swelling, you can apply a cold compress for 10 to 20 minutes at a time.
