What Are Dental Veneers?

A dental veneer is a thin shell, usually made of porcelain or composite resin, that is permanently secured over the front of your tooth. Unlike a dental crown, which fits over your entire tooth, a veneer covers only the front of your tooth. This works to correct flaws like discolouration, asymmetry, and worn teeth.

The Veneer Process

Getting dental veneers usually requires two appointments. During the initial visit, the front surface of your tooth will be ground down to make room for the veneer, and a mould of the tooth will be sent to a lab. At your second visit, the veneer will be fitted, your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned, dental cement will be applied, and the veneer will be fixed to your teeth.
